Help files - How do I make a post?
      #3048 - 10/26/03 01:11 AM

Welcome to the IDthisPill.Com!

So you've taken a look around... checked out the forums.... read what others have to say.... and now you're ready to add your thoughts to our site? GREAT!

Here is a newbie's guide to making a new post:

- First, make sure you are logged in.

- Select a forum to post in. We have several to choose from. See the list at the bottom of this message if you're not sure where your post should go or what a forum is for.

- Once inside the forum, click "Post". (If this button is "greyed out" or does not work, then the forum you are in does not allow posting. Make sure it is a forum that allows posting by all users.)

- Enter the subject of your post. Be descriptive, make sure the subject summarizes the message.

- Choose a post icon. The post icon extends the emotion of your post into the list of posts. If it's a question, use the question mark... if it's a happy thought use the smile. There are several Post Icons to choose from.

- Enter the Post into the larger post box.

- Below that box, you can click on any Instant Graemlins to insert the smileys into your message.

- If you wish to use any Bold or Italic Text, insert any URLs or Email links into your post, you may click the appropriate Instant UBB Code box, and follow the prompts.

- When you are satisfied with your message, scroll to the bottom.

- If you wish to receive an email each time someone replies to your post, check that box.

- If you wish to preview your post, or attach a file, click that box.

- Then click Continue. If you did not choose to preview your message, then you are done.

If you chose to preview your post:

- The top of the screen will show you a preview of your message. Check it over for spelling or typing errors.

- If you need to correct or change anything, scroll to the bottom of the changes, where you can edit.

- When you have made the necessary edits, click the continue button at the bottom of the page.

- You'll have the opportunity to preview again. You can make corrections again at the bottom if you wish.

- If you are satisfied with your message, click the Continue button just below your post preview. Then you are done.

If you chose to attach a file to your post:

- Click the "Browse" button just below your post preview.

- Select the file you wish to attach from your hard drive.

- Then click the Continue button, just below the Preview Post screen. Then you are done.

It's that simple!

Help files - How do I edit my profile? new [Re: Administrator]
      #3049 - 10/26/03 01:12 AM

Welcome to Our Site!

Our site is an online community. And part of what adds to that sense of community is the fact that the members here can become much more than simply a username.

You may have noticed, if you click on a username here, you view that user's profile. Basic information about themselves like location, hobbies, interests etc...

Nobody likes clicking on a username and finding an empty profile, so to add to everyone's experience, please take a brief moment to add some general information to your profile. We don't need your Social Security number and blood types of your first born, just some basic information, so that you may become more than simply a "username" in our community.

To Edit Your Profile:

- Click "My Home" at the top of the screen.

- Scroll to the bottom and click "Edit" next to "Personal Information, email, password etc..."

- Here you can change and enter basic information about yourself:

---- Change your password (enter it twice)

---- Email Address for Administrative Use - this email address is NOT visible to members, it is only used by the site Admins should you forget your password, or if you set any of the options to receive notifications to new messages and replies via email.

---- Email Address (displayed on posts) - this email address will appear in YOUR profile and will be visable to others.

---- Full Name - some people prefer to give just a first name, and that's fine.

---- Signature - will appear at the bottom of every post you make.

---- Homepage - if you've got a web page, enter it here. DO NOT Include the "http"

---- Occupation - tell us what you do when you're not surfing our site.

---- Hobbies - what else do you like to do?

---- Geographic Location - please give us some general location information. The internet has users from all across the globe, it's nice to have a general idea of where everyone is from.

---- Bio - tell us a little about yourself.

---- ICQ number - if you're on ICQ, enter your number here, and your ICQ status will be shown in the Who's Online screen and User List.

---- Your Picture URL - enter the remote URL to your face pic or Avatar. This URL should end in .gif, .jpg or .png. Be sure to include the "http".

---- If you'd like to upload your face pic or Avatar to our server, click "Browse" and select an image from your hard drive.

---- Do you want to be Visible? - If you say yes here, you will appear to users in the Who's Online screen.

---- Do you want users to see the actual post/forum you are looking at? - If you say yes here, users can see and hyperlink to what post/forum you are looking at from the Who's Online screen.

---- Accept Private Messages from users? - If you say yes here, you'll be able to use our Private Message system (from the My Home screen) to receive private messages from other users. Private Messages are sort of like private emails here on our site.

- When you have finished editing your profile, click "Submit".

- If you wish to see how your profile looks, simply click on your username next to a post, in the Who's Online Screen (if you are visible) or in the User List.

Thanks for taking a few moments to tell us more about yourself.

Common question:
"What are PMs?"

PMs are Private Messages. Registered Users here may send private messages to other registered users. Its like our own personalized in-house email system.

The "Home Base" for the Private Message system can be found (after you're logged in) by clicking the "My Home" link at the top of the screen.

From here, on the left hand side, you'll see links for "Send a PM", "Received Private Messages" and "Sent Private Messages".

When you have received a new PM... a flashing indicator (like this: ) will appear to the left of the "Main Index" link at the top of the screen.
Clicking on this flashing indicator will take you to a list of your Private Messages.

To send a PM, click the "Send a PM" link on the "My Home" page.
Fill in the username (you can also build and select from an Address Book) and compose your message. There are also options at the bottom of the screen to keep a copy of your message, get a read receipt, or preview your message.

NOTE: Private messages may not stay in the system forever. From time to time, to save space the Administrators may purge old private messages.

If you would prefer Not to receive Private Messages from users, you may disable this feature. To disable Private Messages, go to the "My Home" page and then click "Edit" next to "Personal Information, email, password, etc.". Set the very last option on the page to "No", then click "Submit" to save the changes.

Another tip! To send a Private message... simply click on a user's name. Scroll to the bottom of their profile, and click on "Send a Private Message".
